Numeracy today in Reception class was about estimating - a brief view of a ladybird (No, a picture, not a real one) and the children had to make a sensible guess at how many spots they had seen. During this session, one of the girls asked to go to the toilet. After she had gone, I held up the next card.
"How many spots do you think were on that one?" I asked, in my best Joyce Grenfell voice. From the depths of the toilets came a stentorian answer,
"FIVE!"
Not only a bright class but x-ray vision too!

Awwwwww, that's so adorable!
Cute, Jenny. Moments like that must make you glad you returned to teaching.
What about trying them out with spots on a dalmation, maybe in a couple of years.
I tried this once at a garden fete, it was a good game, there were more spots than you realised.
Incidentally, I am friends with a lovely lady called Jean Adamson who writes the Topsy and Tim books, she lives in my village. Her daughter lives in Wales, I thought I would mention it.
Love it!
