Shingles

Today, having been to my welsh class this morning, I am now at Dad's in Bristol. I am here because one of his 89th birthday presents on Monday was shingles so, as you can imagine, he's not feeling 100%. Not that that stopped him trekking outside in the wind and cold yesterday to battle with the garage doors!
So this afternoon, we are sitting in the living room and he has the television on...
watching a boring war programme on the Yesterday channel. (Oh boy, the producers of that channel have a lot to answer for!)
"I could go back home," I mused aloud, "but the trouble is, the same channel would probably be on there too."
On a positive note, I was able to say to my tutor this morning,
"Y bore ma, dwi'n mynd i Frysti i weld Tad. Mae gynno fo shingles."
My tutor was impressed - "Da iawn!" she said.
Little things...

I refuse to learn Welsh. And very pleased I don't have the Yesterday Channel either!

Sorry to hear about your Dad.

I'm not really sure what shingles is. Anything to do with beaches? I hope your pops is feeling better soon and sorry there wasn't a knitting programme on TV when you visited him.

Well, over there, welsh isnt necessary, Cro but well done for having the good taste not to have the dreaded Yesterday channel. ;)

Shingles is caused by the same virus as chicken pox. It lies dormant in your body if you've had chicken pox and can emerge at any time as shingles. He's not doing too badly, thanks and a knitting programme would be just as boring as war programmes!

You mean the Welsh don't have a word for shingles? Your dad has my sympathy. It's not something I've had, but I know a few people who have and it isn't pleasant.

You'd be surprised how many english words the Welsh 'borrow' SP. :) Dad's not doing too badly, thanks.

Plaster board and dust

So, we're still no further forward on the British Gas smart meter front and I've given up making non-existent appointments with them...
