"Well, there is only one piece of advice I can give you," said the wisest of wise men. "The secret of happiness is to see all the marvels of the world and never to forget the drops of oil on the spoon."

A Mother's Story: Teaching

A Mother's Story: Teaching

Jenny... I think that Hugh would have been an exception. The odious Gove's idea sounds rather dumb to me. Okay there's a handful of soldiers who would have the intelligence, patience, sensitivity and imagination to become good teachers but most would be better building schools, guarding them or becoming caretakers in them. If the tables were turned I am sure that I would have been a disastrous soldier. I'd have been wanting to chat to the enemy, sample their cuisine and stroke their cats rather than blasting them to smithereens!
