"Well, there is only one piece of advice I can give you," said the wisest of wise men. "The secret of happiness is to see all the marvels of the world and never to forget the drops of oil on the spoon."

I'm not here, I'm there

Today I'm not here - I'm there instead, which means, I'm not at home, I'm on a short visit to see Dad in Bristol. E.D. recently bought a wireless router for Dad so that he can use his laptop in the living room rather than having to be in the back room on the desktop all the time or have wires all over the floor. She bought it ... and left it here for me to sort out, which I am trying to do - honest!
The problem is that it's a wireless router, not a wireless modem router, which would have made things easier. Keith decided to sort it out remotely and we spent a couple of happy hours trying to set that up, but it was refusing to co-operate, so we have retired defeated for today.
Oh well, tomorrow is another day...

ED bought it, had it delivered directly to Grandad and asked him did he want help setting it up which he politely refused at the time.....

"A couple of happy hours"? I don't think so! More like the unleashing of the great TEMPER beast! Be afraid! Be very afraid!

I know those 'happy hours'! We've had many of them in this house.

You wait till you have two programmers in the house, one of whom has a university degree in computer science and the other one his father with many years of experience but no degree. And they still can't make things work, and blame the software, the hardware, or both - or even each other. Oh, SUCH fun! ROFL!

I hope you get the router figured out soon!

Jay, sounds like Keith and his son (but without the degree).
YP, I hope you are not insinuating that I have a TEMPER!!!!!
E.D. It's not that, it's just that it's a wireless router, not a wireless modem router, which apparently makes it more complicated. (I just do as I'm told!)

I spend 6 hours (6!) setting up my folks broadband connection last year. We just could not get it to connect. I had asked him about the micro filters and asked him if he had fitted them in the hall and the bedroom. He was adamant that he had. Eventually having exhausted all other possibilities I went to check for myself. No micro filters in sight. I fitted one and bingo it was sorted. My Dad bless him thought that the micro filter was the connection on the end of the phone!

I think we have spent nearly that long over a couple of evenings and still not got there!
