Sorry?

Much has been written about the tragic events following the hoax call made by two presenters of the Australian programme, 2Day FM Radio. The presenters in question, Mel Greig and Michael Christian have been taken off air and it is said that both are receiving  counselling. Despite trawling the internet, however, try as I might, I cannot find anywhere any indication that they themselves, as opposed to the radio station,  have actually apologised for their little'joke' or offered their sympathy to nurse Jacintha Saldanha's family.
Admittedly, neither could have anticipated such an outcome to what started out as a stupid, juvenile prank, but part of being a grown up is taking responsibility for your actions and apologising when the occasion warrants it. Running away and going into hiding can come afterwards.
Let's hope the 'intensive counselling' they are reported to be undergoing enables them to understand this.

I think of the stark contrast between their lives - the overpaid Aussie DJ's superficial and self-important "work" - chattering about nothing and being so "cool" and Jacintha Saldanha, quietly caring for others in long nights, raising money for her family and someone who must have worked so hard to get where she was in nursing. However, I very much doubt that it would have been the DJ's themselves coming up with the hoax call idea - behind them there'd surely be a production team of equally silly people who think its a laugh to burst through the normal barriers of propriety.

Trying to make the royal family appear stupid has always been a favourite sport of Aussie, and British, idiots alike. About time some respect was shown; especially to a young woman going through difficult times, and a profession that does nothing but heal.

A dreadful series of events. personally I would have banned any media coverage to Australian radio stations - If I had been the Queen! (AS if!) But with the recent Levisan enquiry it flags warning bells. But will they be heard?

Apparently it was their idea, YP, thought up moments before they went on air. However, I have now doubt that the pressure to come up with these stunts to increase their audience is constant.

Very true, Cro.

It remains to be seen, Mrs N.

You said what I have been thinking, they would have earns a bit more sympathy by saying they were sorry for their actions by which one can conclude they were not sorry at all. My deepest sympathy to the nurse involved and her family

Even after their interview today, Sage, they still seemed to think that doing something like that was OK and it really isn't.

The net result, their post 'prank' emotive interview, does not indicate much has been learned that would fit your description of being an adult and truly being empathic. 'Gutted', 'worst phone call of my life'. Narcissism reigns supreme with them and their radio team and station.

I still want to know why a private hospital that treats the famous and the very wealthy, had nurses answering phones, irrespective of the time of the day or night.

My reaction to their interview was exactly the same, ZACL. They still seemed far more concerned with the impact on themselves and I also am convinced that the hospital didn't give her the support they claim to have done. I hope the contents of her letter which was 'critical' of the hospital will eventually be disclosed.

So, we're still no further forward on the British Gas smart meter front and I've given up making non-existent appointments with them...
