Ill

A few months ago, I was ill with what seemed to me to be a gall bladder related problem - pain under the ribs and around the shoulder blade and vomiting. When I told Elder Daughter, I got the typical response, "Go to the doctor."
Do I really need to?" I asked.
"You'll be sorry if you don't and then you get a full blown attack," was the reply.
Why are doctors so bossy?
Well, according to the age-old wisdom that daughters should follow their mothers' advice and not the other way round, I didn't. I just hoped it wouldn't happen again. When it comes to ostriches and heads in the sand, I hold the gold cup.
Fast forward to last night, sitting at Dad's, watching television and becoming increasingly aware of pain under the ribs and around the shoulder blade. After downing a couple of gallons of Gaviscon, I gave in and announced that I was going to bed and that I would be fine after a good night's sleep. And so I would, I expect, if I had managed to get a good night's sleep. Instead, the pains got steadily worse, there was no chance of me finding a comfortable lying position and I soon lost count of the number of times I vomited. (Bet you really wanted to know that, didn't you?)
So after spending a night in which I increasingly doubted whether I would ever see morning - well, you know I'm prone to exaggeration but the thought did cross my mind - I got up this morning feeling somewhat better and well enough to drive home. Staying an extra day would have been awkward as I had a number of appointments arranged for tomorrow.
However, I have to reluctantly  concede that Elder Daughter was probably right (OK she was definitely right) and I should pay a visit to the doc's. It's either that or live on dry toast for the rest of my life.
OK folks, so when your offspring tell you to do something, just do it!

So pleased that you got home safely. Our relatives in London and Suffolk couldn't believe our lack of snow in this area.
Yes, Daughter's advice sounds wise, hope to hear that your pain is something easily treatable.

Please see someone over this!!

Some years ago now, after eating a spicy meal that my Partner prepared,I was doubled up with pain, and we called out the Dr on duty....what followed overtime was Scans etc. and I had Keyhole surgery it was very new at that time, and was filmed for 'Watchdog'...but never shown. (To tell how long ago it was, it used to be John Stapleton, and his wife.)
The surgery was a great success, and recovery was more or less immediate! Only ONE large one..
When I left the Hospital in the lift, met someone we knew, and they thought I was visiting, I looked so well.As you know I'm now years later dealing with other health issues.

Jenny - only men are supposed to be so stupid that they pretend they don't need to see doctors or dentists...but you are a woman so get your ass down to the doctors forthwith and get the intervention/support/help you obviously need!

I'm not really a believer in rushing off to the quack, but in your case it does sound as if your daughter is right. Off with you at once!

Hope all goes well.

E.D. not being harsh at all, just admitting that you were right! :)
Aileen, YP and Cro, thank you for your concern and I will be off to the doctor post haste - promise!

I feel for you. My sister-in-law had/has the same problem, but it was solved by changing her diet. The down side is that there are lots of things she loves that she can't eat, the upside is that she lost an awful lot of weight!

I'm not sure what else I can change, SP. I have followed a fairly low fat diet for years and eat very little red meat - however, I shall try!

Plaster board and dust

So, we're still no further forward on the British Gas smart meter front and I've given up making non-existent appointments with them...
