With out wishing to sound like a cleverclogs, I did know about this.
My brother-in-law (sorta) is pretty certain that the stones came from Wales and he developed a theory as to how they were transported.
He reckons they were wrapped in wicker and rolled, or even floated, to Salisbury Plain. And he's carried out a scaled down experiment to prove it can be done.
I wrote about it around this time last year.
That's fascinating, SP. As you will have realised, Keith's explanation was slightly tongue in cheek. ;)
