Successful people

I have found six teaching jobs to apply for beginning in September, mostly part time and/or temporary, which would suit me quite well as I shall also need time for my counselling placement in due course. I look at the job descriptions and feel enthusiastic, then I look at the application forms, at the request for my date of birth, and I feel less optimistic. I have considered not filling in that bit.......

Someone told me recently that one of the six signs of a successful person is that they never give up. OK, I wonder what the other five are? Hiding their date of birth?

I'd employ someone your age over a 20 something anyday.

I know how you feel with the age-thing, Jennyta. Plus, I also have the problem of someone letting me off for the two weeks of Christmas and the 10 weeks off for summer holiday, all for when my youngest comes here to stay with me.

Hmm, what do you think the odds of that happening?

'the other five' - being happy in one's skin?

Easier said then done some days.

Isn't age discrimination illegal now? I didn't think they were even allowed to ask for your date of birth on application forms.

The other five? Try, try, try, try, try again?

Actually, I thought they weren't allowed to ask your age these days.

Michelle, you're a gem! Alice, I can see your problem although, these days, most businesses seem to shut down for about a fortnight at Christmas now anyway.

Pi, I think I'll have to work on that one!

Timorous Beastie and SP, the age dscrimination law isn't coming in for another few months yet, I think. There is definitely a request on any teaching application forms I've seen for date of birth and sometimes age too (in case they can't work it out for themselves?) Anyway, I suppose the record of past employment, with dates, would give the game away. :(

So, we're still no further forward on the British Gas smart meter front and I've given up making non-existent appointments with them...
